The last 12 months have been unforgettable - unfortunately. The National Bureau of Economic Research tells us that this recession began in December 2007. By all signs, it continues up to the present day, at 20 months (through August 2009), a record-breaker for duration. As dicey as things were for its first eight months through August 2008, we can actually put a pretty exact time on when a conventional recession took a near-catastrophic turn for the worse.
