Ahead of the curve: Technology focus, acquisitions, facility expansion has TeleflexGFI fueled for growth in alternative fuels markets

Being ahead of the curve can be precarious in any business. And in a business as volatile and occasionally speculative as the alternative fuel industry, it wouldn't appear at first glance to be the surest road to success. But being ahead of the curve technically has been a philosophy that's been a key to success for TeleflexGFI Control Systems, as in a little over a decade, this Kitchener, Ontario, Canada-headquartered company has evolved from a research project into one of the leading global suppliers of gaseous-fuel systems and components for vehicular applications. "As a technology provider, we've always been ahead of the curve in offering up technology," said Lindsay Worden, manager of business development at TeleflexGFI. "We've always been proactive in that sense. In our business, with the long lead times it takes to develop these systems, you've always got to be ahead of the curve." That strategy has appeared to pay off in a big way on the bottom line. TeleflexGFI's current customer base includes 19 original equipment manufacturers in 13 countries and it supplies components for every current OEM natural gas and propane vehicle program in North America.
