A lesson in cost savings: Mississippi university in installs diesel gen-sets, adds flexibility and cost savings

The University of Mississippi, Northeast Mississippi Electric Power Association (NMEPA) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) recently finalized the university's new power purchase agreement designed to save it money while allowing NMEPA more flexibility with its allocation of electric power. The new Variable Pricing Interruptable (VPI) program offered by TVA, coupled with the on-site power capabilities of the university, are expected to allow the school to save nearly USD1 million per year in electrical demand and energy charges without risking interruption.
