When former U.S. president Richard Nixon made a historic visit to China in the early 1970s, rumor has it that Cummins' Chairman J. Irwin Miller was on the next- plane, becoming one of the earliest U.S. industrialists to develop trade links with the country. Miller's 1975 trip was not quite that soon after Nixon's but engine builder Cummins can boast to be one of the first companies to set up operations in China and today remains one of the biggest and most respected.
