Drillship to cut deep drilling costs

As the search for oil and gas goes into deeper and deeper waters, drilling costs rise accordingly. A drillship that has just entered service with BP Amoco under a five-year charter arrangement is aimed at bringing deep water well costs under control. Discoverer Enterprise is the first of a fleet of three ships that Transocean Offshore Inc., has designed specifically for dual-activity, ultra-deepwater drilling. Subsequent newbuildings will be Discoverer Spirit and Discoverer Deep Seas, due for completion in the third quarter of 2000.
