摘要

The discussion of how best to propel the growing LNG tanker fleet has, as of late, been the subject of much debate. Recently, it has seen a turn from traditional steam turbines to reciprocating engines, as Wartsila and MAN B&W each have received engine orders for new-build LNG carriers. However, there is still a strong feeling with many LNG ship owners and operators that steam turbines are the prime solution and a look in the rear view mirror shows what propulsion system has been dominant, Additionally, there are differing opinions of which diesel engines will best serve the interest of the LNG market: two-stroke or four-stroke.
