Alumina refinery under construction in Luoyang, Henan province

Luoyang Wanji Xiangjiang Aluminum Co., Ltd is constructing an greenfield alumina refinery in Luoyang city, Henan province, sources from the company said. With a designed capacity of 1.2 million tpy, the refinery will be built by stages. The Stage one project with capacity of 400,000tpy is likely to come on stream at the end of 2006 but timetable for the Stage two project has not been stipulated yet. On June 22, the company received approval on the Stage two alumina project from the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA).
