Investigations on the sulphur-status of soils in urban area of Rostock

Most of the soils in the Rostock urban area are low in sulphur-content. That is caused by the low SO_2-pollution of the local atmosphere, the low sulphur-contents in the parent materials, and the climatic conditions. The sulphur-contents of soils in allotments, parks, and cemetries meet with those of agricultural soils in the surrounding countryside. Higher sulphur-contents were found in soils of the city centre near buildings and their gardens. The sulphur-status of soils are influenced by the contents of C_(org) and coarse materials as well as by the kind of utilization and its duration and intensity.
