An approach to the modification of soil liners by forcing the development of cracks in combination with refilling the newly formed cracks is examined to its general practicability. It was shown that controlled drying of compressed soil liner material leads to formation of cracks which approach one another nearly right-angled. By the process of shrinkage the material is transferred to a stable state of residual shrinkage. The formed cracks could be closed for the most part by usage of a dispersion of waterglas and kaolin, because the dispersions viscosity was reduced which lead to good flow characteristics. Some recommendations and prospects are discussed.
