46 Jahre glaziologische Massenbilanz des Vernagtferners

For this manuscript, methods and selected results of the mass balance determination are presented for the Vernagtferner, Oetztal Alps, Austria. The series starts in 1965; it depicts strong continuous mass losses since the middle of the 1980ies. The separate discussion of winter and summer balances shows the dominant role of the weather conditions in summer. For two contrasting balance years (1976/77 und 2002/03), the altitudinal gradients of total, winter and summer balances are presented, showing the much smaller variability of the winter accumulation distribution compared to the summer values.
