A comparison of US treatment guidelines for Type 2 diabetes mellitus: applications to the newly diagnosed patient

Diagnostic criteria for diabetes include: fasting plasma glucose concentration of 126 mg/dl or greater, plasma glucose concentration of at least 200 mg/dl after 2 h of ingesting a 75-g oral glucose load, or symptoms of hyperglycemia and a random glucose concentration of at least 200 mg/dl, or hemoglobin A,c (Ale) of 6.5% or higher. These criteria are consistent for both American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) guidelines.
