Diastolic echodopplercardiographic indices of non-sedated healthy cats.

This study was undertaken to determine the values of E and A wave velocities, E/A ratio, E wave deceleration time and IVRT in healthy, non-sedated cats and to correlate these indices to heart rate. 40 cats housed in the School of Veterinary Medicine of Sao Paulo University were used in this study. The mean, standard deviation, median, interquartile interval and range were calculated. Doppler examination was performed in cats restrained in left lateral recumbency. A good correlation between the heart rate and E wave velocity was observed, as well as between the E/A ratio and IVRT. E wave deceleration time and A wave velocity were unaffected by the heart rate. The establishment of these values would allow the definition of the pattern of the diastolic abnormality usually related to cardiomyopathies in cats..
