Ukraine, China to cooperate on four coal gasification projects in Ukraine

Ukraine and China have signed agreements for the construction of four coal gasification projects in Ukraine, South China Morning Post reported. The news was announced by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych after his visit to China. The plants will be built to help Ukraine reduce its dependence on gas imports. Ukraine has boosted coal production to manage some of the dependence on Russian gas, reducing imports of the fuel from 44.8 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2011 to 27.3 bcm in 2013.
