Angang Group New Iron & Steel Co, the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchange-listed arm of Anshan Iron & Steel Group, idled its medium plate mill for annual maintenance from 5 November. The 15-day maintenance shutdown on the mill, located in Anshan city works in Liaoning Province in northeast China, is expected to lose the company some 40,000 tonnes in production but it insists inventory has been accumulated to meet customer requirements. "We need to do maintenance on the medium plate mill once a year, and usually this is done around July or August, but this year we postponed it to November because the market is quite good," said an official in Angang's machinery maintenance department. The maintenance stoppage may be over in less than 15 days, he added.
