Coal India Eyes Private Investment for UCG Projects

Coal India Ltd. has invited E&P companies to invest in coal blocks in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar to develop underground coal gasification (UCG) projects from difficult-to-mine coal fields, Financial Express reported Mar.3.More coal blocks are expected to be placed on offer soon. Blocks will be awarded on the basis of the highest production level payment to Coal India. Private players that are awarded blocks are free to exit if pilot studies indicate that UCG is not feasible for the area.
