Methanex, the world's largest methanol producer, and Safco, Saudi Arabian Fertilizer Co., a subsidiary of Saudi Basic industries Corporation, stand to benefit the most from the rise of coal prices, as both rely on natural gas as their methanol plant feedstock, Bloomberg reported Feb. 7, citing a statement by Alembic Global Advisors. Coal prices have risen 30 percent in the last year, and may gain 30 percent in 2011, said Alembic analyst Hassan Ahmed.
