The average price paid for LNG imported in Japan, $7.50 per MMBtu, for the month of November has dipped to a new low since Japan began publishing prices a year ago, according to Reuters. The price for the same month last year was $14.40 per MMBtu. Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. signed a deal with Wartsila Energy Solutions to construct a 40 megawatt (MW) power plant in Kerala, India, according to The Times of India. The new facility, which will be located on the grounds of the existing Brahmapuram plant, will run on LNG and will replace a 20 MW power unit, to be decommissioned by April 2017. The remaining three will continue to operate on low sulfur heavy stock oil (LSHS). Switching from LSHS to LNG reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 25%, according to the report.
