Freeport LNG in Texas has been granted conditional approval to export more LNG to non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries by the Department of Energy (DOE), Reuters reports. The facility was approved in May 2013 to export up to 1.4 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) for a 20 year period; the additional authorization allows for an extra 0.4 bcf/d, bringing the total allowed amount to 1.8 bcf/d. DOE makes the determination of authorizing exports to non-FTA nations based on the best interest of the public in the U.S. and concluded that the additional exports would be consistent with that standard.
