Lithuania secures EIB loan for LNG import terminal

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to loan Lithuania US$112 million to build an LNG import terminal after the project failed to raise funds from commercial banks, Reuters reported. By building the terminal, Lithuania hopes to diversify its energy supply and 9 provide a backup energy source in the event of gas supply interruptions. The country looks to start imports from 2015 to move away from pipeline gas imports from Russia.
