Reuters: Tight LNG supply could spell high prices in 2013

Global prices of LNG are rising toward record highs in 2013 as increasing demand runs up against stuttering supply, Reuters reported. The situation threatens to drive up fuels costs in some of the world's biggest economies. Production is expected to grow only marginally in 2013. Demand, however, is set to continue to climb amid the rapid economic growth of several Asian countries, a drought in Brazil and Japan's near shutdown of its nuclear industry. With 80 percent of LNG supplies locked under long-term contracts, countries such as Brazil, Argentina, China and India, which rely on short-term deals, could face the biggest hit.
