Aluminum scrap is not on the new Commodity Catalogue of Prohibition for Processing Trade. Moreover, the processing trade of aluminum scrap will be resumed in the near term, said Mr. Ma Hongchang, official of the Metal Recycling Branch under China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association. The domestic secondary aluminum industry has been affected by the policy of restricting export of energy-intensive products because aluminum scrap and primary aluminum have the same customs code-On July 1, 2006, China began to remove the processing trade of aluminum scraps. In fact, the energy consumption in production of secondary aluminum is much less than primary aluminum production. And importing aluminum scraps is in accordance with the policy of encouraging use of overseas resources. So, the secondary aluminum industry should obtain the policy support.
