Rosneft has bought the remaining 49 percent of gas company Itera for US$2.9 billion. The move furthers Rosneft's aim to become Russia's largest independent gas producer, Bloomberg reported. Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin aims to make Rosneft a global energy producer, with plans to have a gas output of 100 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas a year by 2020 from about 13 bcm in 2012. Competitor Gazprom produced 479 bcm of gas in 2012. Rosneft and Novatek, Russia's second-largest gas producer, is lobbying the Russian government to export LNG, a right held only by Gazprom at present.
