On Sept. 25, San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron Corp. announced that its Australian subsidiary will proceed with the construction of its Wheat-stone LNG export project in Western Australia."This project, along with Gorgon LNG, is well-positioned to provide a large, secure energy supply to meet growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region," JohnWatson, Chevron chairman andchief executive officer, said. It will "place Chevron as one of the world's leading LNG suppliers," he said.Chevron received federal environmental approval for the first phase of the Wheatstone LNG project a few days earlier.
