Rising demand for gas in the Middle East could lead Saudi Arabia into the LNG import business, Platts reported Oct. 4, citing a senior Gazprom official. "In the Middle East as a whole, LNG imports could reach 15 million tonnes a year (mt/y) by 2020 and 20 mt/y by 2030," Shahriar Fesha-raki, vice chairman of FACTSGlobal Energy said."Exploding demand and[a] limitation on supplies," saidFrederic Barnaud, managing director of Gazprom Global LNG, will cause a significant deficit in the region and "Saudi [Arabia] may be looking at import[ing] LNG to augment domestic supply in the coming years."
