Turkish Tempers Flare as Cyprus Develops Offshore Gas

The Electric Authority of Cyprus (EAC) wants to partner with Delek Group Ltd. (Delek) and Noble EnergyInc. (Noble) on the construction of LNG export facilities, Globes reported Sept. 13. Investment in the project could reach as much as US$8 billion.Noble will drill anexploratory well later this month in its Block 12 concession located in Cyprus's maritime economic zone to verify the gas resources. Preliminary estimates have come to some 10 tcf.In addition to the exporting facilities, Cypriot authorities would like to build two combined-cycle gaspower generating stations, commencing operations before the end of summer next year.
