Vopak announced Sept. 23 that the ?800 million (US$1.09 billion) Gate terminal has been officially opened by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Consisting of three storage tanks, two jetties and an area for LNG regasification, the Dutch terminal is able to process 12-bil-lion-cubic-meters per year (bcm/y, 1.16 billion cubic feet per day) of gas.Vopak, together with their joint-venture partner Gasimie, wants to increase throughput capacity to 16 bcm/y by building new jetties and smaller-scale terminals."Our objective is to be an independent LNG provider globally. We are looking for more opportunities to invest," Reuters quoted Eelco Hoekstra, Vopak's chief executive.
