This study was conducted to evaluate piglet performance, ranging from 35 to 62 days of age, fed diets containing garlic and colistin. A total of 96 piglets were distributed into four treatment groups in a complete randomized block design. The treatment groups were the following: (DC) control diet, without antimicrobials; (D2) DC+0.05% of powder garlic; (D3) DC+0.15% of powder garlic; and (D4) DC+0.25% of colistin sulfate. Feed intake was 16.2% higher (P<0.05) for animals fed with the diets containing colistin compared to animals fed the diet containing 0.05% of powder garlic. There were no differences in animal performance when pigs were fed with diets containing 0.25% of colistin, 0.15% of powder garlic and the control diet. Weight gain was higher (P<0.05) for animals fed diets with colistin. There was no difference in weight gain between animals fed with diets without or with garlic. Piglets fed with garlic diets had 7% worse feed conversion (P>0.05) than animals fed diets with colistin. In conclusion, diets without antimicrobial or with powder garlic can not replace diets with colistin sulfate when fed to piglets during the postweaning phase.
