Seawater vs.different raw-water sources desalination

Dramatic improvements were gained in the last several decades and especially in the last years in the technology of RO for seawater desalination (SWRO),rendering the technology affordable also for undeveloped countries.How-ever,desalination of seawater alone is not the ultimate solution,especially if environmental issues are considered.Moreover,we can expect that the recent,and most probably the future,remarkable energy cost increases,will affect the economical benefits of the energy intensive SWRO process,in comparison with desalination of marginal sources with lower salt content and lower osmotic pressure,respectively.
