Strategies and perspectives for collaborative regional capacity building in desalination

As desalination is one of the major water resources for most countries for the Middle East and north Africa (the MENA region), the need in these cuntries for institutional training, education and certification programs in desalination, as well as for research and development initiatives, is higher than in countries where these technologies were developed. "Institutional" training and education refers to programs that are integrated into a country's general capacity building and certification schemes. In desalination practice this applies not only to the training of technicians in operation and maintenance, but also to human resources in management, in planning, in the servicing industry and regional manufacturing. For university education this applies to qualification programs at different levels, as well as to the implementation of R&D capacities.
