Comments on the paper 'A preliminary study of anaerobic treatment coupled with micro-electrolysis for anthraquinone dye wastewater' published by Lihui Huang, Guopeng Sun, Tao Yang, Bo Zhang, Ying He, Xinhua Wang in Desalination 309 (2013) 91-96
Recently Huang et al. [1] published a paper in Desalination on the "A preliminary study of anaerobic treatment coupled with micro-electrolysis for anthraquinone dye wastewater". Undoubtedly, the paper raises a large number of remarkable points, highlighting the pronounced effect of micro-electrolysis and external electric field on the conventional anaerobic treatment technology during the anthraquinone dye wastewater treatment. Interestingly, it was found that the micro-electrolysis serving as electron donor could improve the COD removal efficiency and decolorization of anaerobic treatment But the effect of micro-electrolysis would be weakened seriously when the organic solid covered on the surface of the iron bed. Furthermore, the external electric field could enhance the solubilization of organic solid covering on the surface of the iron bed, which could improve the treatment efficiency of the anaerobic treatment coupled with micro-electrolysis (ATCM).
