Letter: Subcutaneous island pedicle flap mobilization for large defects of the upper cutaneous lip-in support of the 'method of chan'

Letter to the Editor:I read with interest the recent article by Bendeck and colleagues regarding their use of an interpolated trilobed flap from the cheek for a large upper lip defect. They eruditely provide the dermatologic surgeon with a reminder of the wide variety of techniques that may be employed when faced with complex defects of the upper cutaneous lip. Although their statement when discussing subcutaneous island pedicle flaps (IPFs), that "adequate tissue mobility to close this patient's defect could be difficult to achieve with such a flap" has merit, I feel it is worth expanding on this point.
