On the Issue of Re-Certification/Re-Qualification of NDE Personnel

I have attended two NDE conferences in the recent past where the topic of NDE re-qualification and re-certification was raised as a significant issue. This has also been a topic for discussion within Canada and the application of CGSB 9712 by Natural Resources Canada - our national NDE certifying body. On the surface, it may appear that the concept of re-qualification after a certain period, usually quoted as three to five years, is a good thing and, those who oppose it, as being anti-progressives - or similar.I am not sure that either position is valid.
