Current activities - standards for NDT

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) administers the development of National Standards of Canada in the area of nondestructive testing. The national standards have been developed based on a consensus of views among the various experts. Several Committees have been active in the area of NDT over the years, including committees on Industrial Radiography, Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant, Eddy Current and Qualification and Certification of Personnel. Currently there are two active CGSB Committees in the area of nondestructive testing. The Committee on Nondestructive Testing: Industrial Radiography (48/3) and Committee on Nondestructive Testing and Certification of Personnel (48/2). The work of these committees has been funded by CANMET. The most active area of NDT standardization in Canada continues to be the certification of NDT personnel. The Committee on Nondestructive Testing and Certification of Personnel (4812), which meets twice a year, serves as the expertise behind the standards on the certification of personnel and coordinates all new and ongoing standards activities. The members meet to discuss maintenance and any proposed modifications to the existing standard, review proposals for new standards, and to coordinate other Canadian standards activities in NDT. The committee also is responsible for developing the Canadian position on the corresponding ISO standard, and providing input to the Canadian Advisory Committee to ISOITC 135 Non-destructive testing and subcommittees.
