Performance of laying hens submitted or not to different methods of beak trimming.

This experiment was conducted using 288 Isa Babcock laying hens to determine the effect of beak trimming (no trimming, light and severe). The hens were distributed at random experimental design in a 3x3 factorial arrangement (first x second beak trimming). The first trimming was done at 9 days of age and the second trimming at 12 weeks of age. Feed intake, body weight, egg production and feed conversion in four periods of 28 days were evaluated. According to the results, the birds with severe beak trimming had lower feed intake and egg production (P<0.05).
