Has it already been 150 years since the death of Prince Albert? The Centre for Modern Studies at the University of York is planning a 1-day symposium on December 3, 2011, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his death by investigating how grief was manifested and mourning facilitated in the Victorian period through literature, music, performance, and the visual arts. This symposium aims to recover the rich culture of mourning in the Victorian period, often satirized but rarely understood, by showcasing current research and encouraging conversation, debate, and interdisciplinary exchange.
