Ketosis can be gateway to other health problems

Ketosis can occur when energy demand exceeds energy intake after calving, leading to a higher rate of fat mobilisation than the liver can cope with. This results in a build up of ketone bodies in the blood.Although clinical cases of the disease may be uncommon, a recent study found 30% of UK dairy cows were suffering from subclinical ketosis. This occurs when levels of the ketone BHBA exceed 1000-1400umol/litre.
