Although producers are constantly urged to greater efficiency, the fear is any benefit will be pounced upon by retailers.Speaking at a press briefing, RABDF chairman Ian Macalpine said: "I think efficiency is increasing as producers put on more cows or go for a cheaper system of grazing, but the key is any benefit of efficiency should be a benefit to the farmer and not godown the chain."He was particularly concerned over the growingprevalence of cost of production (COP) formulae and whether they act to negate any drive to greater efficiency.
