Aproduct which is designed to extend the life of sperm so that insemination and conception can take place over a period of at least 48 hours will be launched at the Dairy Event and Livestock Show. This two-day window is around twice as long as the available period for inseminating conventional semen and is said to significantly improve conception rates, most notably with problem breeders. Called SpermVital and comprising an 'extender' which holds the sperm in a state of 'suspended animation', the product is currently only available for around eight bulls of the Norwegian Red breed.
