Reunification for German black and white cattle

In June last year, the West and East German Holstein populations were commonly evaluated for the first time since the German reunion. At the same time, the base change recommended by INTERBULL was implemented. Friedrich Reinhard and Ludger Dopp of VITVerden explain the consequences. The German Holstein Association (DHV) has defined the West and East German black and whites as one common breed population. Due to the fast and wide spread use of Holstein sires in East Germany, the degree of relationship between the West and East German populations increased so far that a common evaluation was possible with this last year's June proof run. Thus, all German black and whites form one evaluation population, and all proofs are comparable now.
