Supplement boosts milk protein and dry matter intakes

Increased milk yields and higher dry matter intakes has been achieved in trials carried out at Nottingham University by feeding a source of rumen-bypass fat and protein with lactose. Megapro Gold, developed by Volac International, produced an extrasix litres of milk per cow per day on average, with no loss in milk quality, and produced an extra yield of 230g of protein worth 96p per cow per day. "The value of the extra milk produced less the cost of feeding Megapro Gold - on average 1kg per head per day at 35p/kg - is pound 114 per cow during the first 120-day lactation period," says Volac's product manager Martin McConnell.
