摘要

A Leicestershire farm has used breeding, a strict culling policy and feeding to boost yields and margins. Field Farm at Kegworth, Leicestershire, is an inspiring example of how an average herd can become an excellent one in just 10 years. The 150-strong Holstein Friesian herd has recently achieved a pound 1,765 margin over concentrates and both owner Charles Coaker and herd manager Richard Bosley are confident that the next couple of years will see a steady increase from the current (end May) milk-sold figure of 10,308 litres per animal towards 12,000 litres. Despite current fluctuations in milk prices and the future of quota, the long term aim of the farm has always stayed the same: to produce as much milk as possible from the herd, within economic constraints.
