During the last six months, Dairy Farmer has run a series of exclusive articles based on the guidelines contained in the MAFF Codes of Good Agricultural Practice. We spoke to ADAS pollution adviser Alan Brewer (right) who outlined the encouraging progress made to date in on-farm pollution prevention. Major incidents of pollution caused by agriculture have declined steadily from 99 cases in 1991 to 36 in 1994, according to the recently published NRA report on water pollution incidents in England and Wales (1994). That's the heartening news for dairy farmers from Alan Brewer of ADAS, He believes there are several reasons for this, not least the large sums of money spent by the industry in upgrading slurry storage and handling equipment.
