New service will check rations for amino acids

Protein levels in milk can be boosted by using feed supplements, but only if the correct amino acid building blocks are available in the ration in the first places. Milk producers seeking to boost herd protein and milk production could benefit from anew amino acid ration profile service to be introduced this autumn by Rhone-Poulenc Animal Nutrition. Dairy rations will be analysed using a database of more than 400 raw materials to reveal any production-limiting shortfalls in lysine and methionine amino acid levels - essential for optimum milk protein synthesis. The test results will include a summary providing the most appropriate nutritional advice to rectify any imbalance or deficiency by topping-up the ration with EU-approved sources of protected amino acids and modifying the existing ration for the most cost-effective combination of raw materials.
