ISO standard threatens milking parlour design

New standards under discussion for milking parlour construction do not take into account all parlour types according to Eire-based milking scientist Dr Eddie O'Callaghan. Richard Halleron reports. Moorepark-based Dr Eddie O'Callaghan has called for athorough reappraisal of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) proposals relating to the construction and performance of milking machines. He claims that its introduction as standards will simply add to the cost incurred by farmers, without bringing about any improvement in the efficiency of milking. "While a lot of the ISO's thinking makes sense, a number of the current proposals take no account whatsoever of the research work carried out in Ireland on midi-line milking systems," he says.
