Producers looking to invest some of their hard-earned milk cheque in upgrading or renewing their milking plant are strongly advised to carefully consider all their options first. Too many mistakes were made in the mid-90s when milk prices were sky high and many producers installed expensive new kit. That's according to Ian Browne of the Farm Business Consultancy Group who advises anyone thinking of renewing a parlour to avoid repeating such mistakes. "Don't spend money until you've got it and be sure that you want to be investing in your parlour - are you staying in milk for the long-term? Too many people don't think far enough ahead and only react to current problems," he says.
