As we enter a new year the legacy of last year's problems is still with us. Shooting black-and-white bull calves is a painful reminder of foot-and-mouth restrictions and the threat of bluetongue in the future is another possible cloud on the horizon.If we farm within the restrictions placed on us but suffer financially from the mistakes of others or deficiencies in the system, it is ludicrous to expect us to foot the bill. The cost has to be met either by government or passed on to the consumer.
