As Dairy Farmer went to press things were hotting up in Cumbria over who'll be taking on the mAspatria Dairy Crest Direct suppliers. At a meeting dubbed "the final beauty parade" all prospective buyers - First Milk, PiC's Ronald Akkerman, The Cheese Company (Milk Link), Meadow Foods and Lactalis, gave what was effectively their final presentations. The end of January marks the First Milk deadline for signing with them but it was clear that, despite what was described as a well received presentation from cheese boss Geoff Halliwell, the co-op would have its work cut out right up until the deadline to tempt the directs en-masse into its new processing order.
