Trial shows cost benefits of acidified boiling water cleaning

Milking equipment cleaning costs can be considerably reduced when sterilisationwith acidified boiling water (ABW) replaces circulation cleaning, according to aFarm Electric trial run at the NAG Dairy Unit. The nine month study, which monitored cleaning costs for a large-bore, 16-unit herringbone parlour showed that ABW cleaning could cut the overall bill for cleaning chemicals by between ￡780 and ￡1,300 a year depending on the brand used. Electricity and water costs could be reduced by more than ￡600 and the use of ABW cleaning could also offer additional labour, maintenance and environmental advantages over circulation cleaning.
