Going on-line boosts fertility management

Two times a month manager Mike Brearley and his two herdsmen get together to talk specifically about the latest fertility results for the farm's 280-cow pedigree Holstein herd. He and his team keep track of key performance parameters and home in on areas which need to be improved using herd fertility data downloaded at the touch of a button from the Internet. The dairy team on EA Robertson Ltd's 1100ha Roxholme Estate near Sleaford was one of the first to try out the Genus Reproductive Management (GRM) program and now has over a year's experience with this on-line service. In that time they have seen a significant improvement in the reproductive performance of the herd and have almost halved the number of cows culled for not being in calf.
