Using grass more efficiently

DEC consultant John Bax looks at the scope for making more efficient use of grass. The renewed interest in grazing and the need to increase milk production from forage can be linked almost directly to recent reductions in milk price. For smaller producers who have difficulty producing high quality milk, the price reductions have been even more severe, with May prices down to 14-15ppl. This would suggest that their longer term future in the dairy industry has to be questioned. For those remaining, what can be done to improve the utilisation of our cheapest resource, grazed grass, to help maintain profitability?
